A CRITICAL JUNCTURE: The photo I've chosen for today's Journal shows several bolts of lightning that are appearing to converge at the peak of Volcán de Agua in Guatemala. The image, entitled "Lightning Over the Volcano of Water," seems an appropriate metaphor for the complex energies we'll be working with over the coming week.

The planet Mars enters harmony-seeking Libra this Wednesday, August 6. For the next six weeks, we will see both the higher and lower vibrational manifestations of assertive, independent Mars being in the sign that is known to prefer collaboration. In the positive, Mars in Libra can help us work cooperatively with others toward a common goal. It inspires actions that are motivated by a desire for peace and justice. The planet's warrior qualities can be tempered by Libra's wish to stay in balance and avoid extremes.

The shadow side of Mars in Libra includes indecisiveness and a lack of concrete action, due to Libra's ability to see both sides of a situation. We may also see symptoms such as passive-aggressive behaviors, when Martian assertiveness and anger that are being held within have to find an exit point.

OUTER PLANET ACTIVATIONS: In addition to having its own dynamics, Mars can act as a triggering mechanism for other aspects that are already in play. When Mars enters Libra, it very quickly comes into aspect with outer planets Uranus, Saturn, Sedna, Neptune, and Pluto. Thus, it will activate an impressive array of major transits: the Uranus-Sedna conjunction, the Saturn-Neptune conjunction, the Saturn-Neptune sextile with Uranus/Sedna, the Uranus/Sedna trine with Pluto, and the Saturn/Neptune sextile with Pluto.

All of these longer-term aspects are profound and highly transformative. They are transmitting the energies that support the evolutionary shift that is occurring for our planet and for humanity. As Mars triggers those energies this week, we expect significant events that may be challenging, but that ultimately bring clarity to our journey and to our higher purposes, individually and collectively.

AUGUST FULL MOON: Adding to the complicated mix of energies this week is a Full Moon in Aquarius. The lunation peaks at 12:56 a.m. PDT on Saturday, August 9, when the Moon is at 17°00' Aquarius and the Sun is at the same degree of Leo.

An Aquarius Full Moon awakens the Rebel, the Eccentric, the Nonconformist, and the Innovator energies within us. However, the need for authentic self-expression and freedom may feel thwarted with the Moon in hard aspect to Mars (semisquare) and to Saturn and Neptune (sesquiquadrate).

Still, with Luna closely conjunct the asteroid Pallas Athene at the time of the lunation, our intuitive knowing is heightened. We have the ability to create an inventive strategy for how to rise above the obstacles we currently face. The gift of Pallas Athene in Aquarius is "the wisdom of the future—creating forms that will benefit generations to come." (Demetra George, Asteroid Goddesses)

URANUS IN GEMINI SNIPPET: One of the symptoms we may experience with Uranus in Gemini, at least until we acclimate to the energies, is a fluttering in the upper chest, at the thymus gland. This gland is the site of the High Heart Chakra and is called the gland of spiritual awakening. Elizabeth Peru writes: "When we grow spiritually and connect to our Source, the thymus flutters like a butterfly. It comes and goes as your ‘high heart‘ (the energy centre of the thymus) expands. You can tap it with two fingers to ground yourself when it flutters.” (NOTE: If you have symptoms that concern you, please talk with a trusted healthcare provider.)

If Your Birthday Is This Week (August 4 - 10):

Your creativity, your self-confidence, and your ability to cultivate self-determination and self-reliance in others are powerful allies for you this year. You are also learning how to manage frustrations and obstacles that might normally cause upset. Important spiritual lessons are woven into your journey this year, when your best option could be to let go and trust rather than trying to force a resolution.
